When documents are merged, it can often be difficult to find the “seams,” where one file segment ends and the next begins in the merged document.
To help identify these seams, up to 255 characters may be inserted at each seam at the end of one document and the beginning of the next. These strings may be entered by keyboard or clipboard as normal characters, or as ASCII character codes. CRs may be typed directly.
A/S interprets embedded ASCII codes and, if the current character remapping set remaps outgoing characters, it remaps the characters as needed. No other processing is done.
A check mark is placed before the Merge File String… menu item when a Merge File String is defined. Choose this menu item to edit the string.
